Aurora man gets 8 years for sexually assaulting girl

It took a jury less than two hours to convict a west suburban man of sexually abusing a young girl nearly every day for eight years while acting as her caregiver.

A jury convicted Pedro Terrazas, 36, of the 1100 block of Pleasant Place in Aurora on Thursday, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's office. He was found guilty of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, five counts of criminal sexual assault and five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse,

Terrazas had sexual contact with the young girl nearly every weekday between 2002 and 2010, prosecutors said at trial. The assaults took place while was alone, acting as the child's caretaker while her mother was at work.

The girl eventually told a family member, who contacted authorities.

Terrazas will appear in court at 9 a.m. on Oct. 12 for post-trial motions and to set a sentencing date, prosecutors said. He faces a minimum of 32 years in prison. He had been held in the Kane County Jail on a $500,000 bond, which was revoked upon conviction.
