CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Police in Cicero are looking for at least four men who robbed a jewelry store and beat up the store clerk – and it was all caught on video Monday afternoon.
Five suspects pulled up to the store in two vehicles and four entered the Roosevelt Gold Exchange on Cicero Avenue around 1:30 p.m.
Video shows two of the suspects engaging with the clerk through the protective glass, while a third suspect used a crowbar to force open the door around back. Then they all rushed inside the store.
Investigators said the robbers beat up the clerk at the, put a bag over his head and tied him up with a phone cord in the back area. The store's video surveillance captured the attack and the men's faces.
They drove off with about $40,000 in jewelry. They initially wanted to get their hands on the videotape, but two big dogs prevented them from going back in the room.
Reporter Anita Padilla spoke with the owner who said, "I work seven days a week and even cut grass on the side. To have punks like this pull the rug out from under you is terrible. For the people out there that are watching this, they need to stop these people."
As a result of the incident, one restaurant owner next door says she keeps an eye on the parking lot and tells anyone loitering to leave.
When captured, the men will face armed robbery and aggravated battery charges.
Anyone with information about the suspects should call Cicero police Detective Joe Melone at (708) 265-2130.
