Man robs Northlake US Bank

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man wearing an Oakland Athletics cap robbed a west suburban bank on Tuesday afternoon, the third area bank robbery of the day and at least the 117th of the year.

At about 2:22 p.m., a man walked into the US Bank branch at 26 W. North Ave. in Northlake, implied he had a gun and asked for cash. He did not show a gun but got away with an undisclosed amount of money, according to Northlake police.

The suspect is described as a 50-year-old Hispanic man, 5-foot-6 with a medium to heavy build, salt and pepper hair, and a goatee. He wore an orange T-shirt, khaki pants, gym shoes, glasses and an Oakland A's baseball cap with a green and yellow bill.

The suspect drove away in a newer-model black Chevrolet pickup with an extended cab and hydraulics for a snow plow attached to the front.

Northlake police and the FBI are investigating, and anyone with information should call police at (708) 531-5755.

The robbery was the third of the day in the area, following the robberies of a Charter One branch in Bridgeview and a Metropolitan Bank branch on the South Side. The Tuesday robberies pushed the year's total to 117, surpassing the 115 robbed in all of 2011, according to the FBI.
