Two dozen kids charged with drinking in vacant Riverside home

Posted: Updated:

About 28 juveniles were charged with underage drinking after police were called to a vacant west suburban home where a young man was apparently having an early a housewarming party.

Two Riverside village employees contacted police about 10 p.m. Monday when they noticed suspicious activity inside a home in the 100 block of Barrypoint, a house they knew was vacant, Riverside police said.

Officers entered the home and found a large number of juveniles inside drinking.

Police said the house had just been rented, and one of the juveniles arrested was the son of the new tenants, who had not yet moved in and were unaware of the party.

After being administered portable breath tests, 28 juveniles were cited for possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor, police said. Those charged were from Riverside, Brookfield, Darien, Elmhurst, Elmwood Park, Hinsdale, LaGrange, Lisle, Melrose Park, Oak Park, River Forest and Western Springs.

The juveniles were not allowed to drive home, but instead were released to their parents, some of whom made arrangements to pick up vehicles later, police said.
