Nick Roach #53 LB
6'1" 234 lbs.
Bio - Roach has recorded 194 tackles (102 solo), 2 sacks, and 16 TFLs in his first five seasons with the Bears. After spending the first 11 weeks of the 2007 season with the Chargers practice squad, Roach was signed to the Bears active roster and played three games, recording five special teams tackles. He has also amassed 9 PBUs, 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 29 special teams tackles. In his two postseason appearances, Roach had three special teams tackles.
Lou's Call – Quiet, Mr. Dependable. Roach has missed only 3 games in the last 4 seasons with the Bears. When Urlacher went down with the wrist injury in 2009, who was there? When Briggs needed a couple of games off in 2010, who was there? Lovie loves Roach as his starting strong side linebacker. The former Northwestern star has really done a nice job finding a home with this organization.
Tom's Take – Nick has been inconsistent. There have been flashes of excellent play, and moments when he gets overwhelmed at the point of attack. He benefits from playing alongside Urlacher and Briggs, but must continue to improve if this defense is going to be a top 10 unit
Dionne's View – Doesn't make a lot of mistakes and plays hard in the shadows of two LB's destined for the HOF. His experience and ability to fill the middle is key- especially if Urlacher happens to miss any time.
