Investigators to take stand when Peterson trial resumes Tuesday

CHICAGO (Chicago White Sox) -

The Drew Peterson murder trial resumes Tuesday in Joliet.

The former Bolingbrook police sergeant is accused of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio who was found dead in her bathtub.

So far in the trial, there have been several motions for mistrials, as well as complaints from the defense that prosecutors have stretched the judge's rules.

The judge has rejected all of those motions and the trial is now scheduled to proceed Tuesday.

Lawyers on both sides say they don't foresee anything impeding the progress of the trial from here.

"I expect the trial will move forward. I don't think you'll see either side making any type of mistake that would warrant the judge getting involved and pulling the plug on the trial," said defense attorney Joe Lopez.

"Well we've got the first week under our belt. And we literally have dozens of witnesses to go. So at least getting the thing started is going to get things rolling, but it's not going to be over for a few weeks," said Jim Glasgow, Will County State's Attorney.

Investigators who examined the scene of Savio's death will take the stand Tuesday.
