First monthly decline in homicides this year

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The homicide rate fell in Chicago during July compared with last year. This is the first monthly decline so far in 2012.

Chicago police say July ended with 49 homicides - that's six less than in July of 2011.

But even with the drop, the number of murders this year is almost 27 percent higher than last year.
