Exonerated death row inmate going back to prison for stealing deodorant

An exonerated Death Row inmate is going back to prison after pleading guilty to retail theft for stealing a stick of deodorant.
Anthony Porter pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of retail theft and Cook County Judge Diane Cannon sentenced him to a year in prison, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
He was given credit for 60 days served in Cook County Jail, and, after the prison sentence, Porter will be placed on mandatory supervised release for one year, Simonton said.
He was charged with theft in September 2011 for stealing deodorant from a South Side Walgreens store, authorities said.
He failed to appear in court July 2 and a warrant was issued for his arrest, state's attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said at the time.
Porter was convicted and sentenced to Death Row for a 1982 double murder on the South Side. He was released from prison in 1999 after serving 16 years on Death Row.
