Patrick Joseph Mikes is a father and avid cyclist from Troy who has gone missing.
TROY, Mich. (WJBK) -
A father and avid cyclist from Troy has gone missing. One person is in custody being questioned about the disappearance. Police say there were signs of an assault inside his home.
55-year-old Patrick Joseph Mikes was reportedly last seen Friday around 5:30 p.m. ridding his black and red Cannondale SuperSix road bike. His two sons, ages 16 and 21, told police they last saw their dad leaving home wearing a yellow shirt and black Spandex shorts, but they didn't file a missing persons report until 10:50 Sunday morning.
"The on-scene investigators who went to the house on Sunday located evidence indicating that an assault took place at the residence. Investigators are in the process of piecing that evidence together in an effort to determine if this assault is related to Mr. Mikes' disappearance," said Captain Robert Redmond with the Troy Police Department.
Neighbors told Fox 2 they saw evidence being removed from the house, including the missing man's car and possibly a couch.
Neighbor Ram Sharma said he saw Mikes riding his bike Friday morning.
"He took his bike and went for ride," he said. "I'm worried where he is. I'm concerned about his safety also."
Police are asking anyone who knows Patrick Mikes' cycling routes or routines to come forward. They also want to talk to anyone with information about why someone might want to hurt him.
"One individual is currently in police custody and is being questioned in regard to possible involvement in this incident. No charges have been filed and it would be premature to indicate that we are focusing on any one individual as a suspect at this juncture as this is an ongoing investigation," Redmond said.
Police would not tell us who is in custody, but clearly they have suspicions about what took place inside Mikes' home. That is why they are seeking tips from the public.
