AURORA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An Aurora man was convicted Monday of running away from police who found drugs during a traffic stop in the western suburb.

A Kane County jury on Monday convicted Edward E. Lesure, 26, of the 10S block of West Street in Aurora, of one count each of felony escape, felony unlawful possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor resisting a peace officer, according to a release from the Kane County State's Attorney's office.

Aurora police stopped Lesure about 6:30 p.m. July 19, 2011, near Lake Street and Arnold Avenue in Aurora for traffic violations and saw a plastic bag containing a white, rock-like substance that appeared to be cocaine fall from Lesure's pocket, the release said.

The officer collected the bag and ordered Lesure out of the car, but escaped as he was being handcuffed, the release said. Lesure was found about 12 minutes later hiding inside a boat near where he was stopped.

A search of his car found two bags of cocaine, the state's attorney's office said.

Lesure will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Aug. 30, the release said. He faces six to 30 years in prison.
