Authorities say a 10-year-old boy helped stop a burglary at his home in Gwinnett County on Friday.
Christopher King said he had been home alone for about 30 minutes when he heard someone knocking at his door. Moments later, he heard a brick smash through the back door and the voices of strangers.
"They were saying, 'Wow, there's a lot of good stuff in here. It's gonna be a good one right here,'" said King.
The fifth-grader went upstairs, hid under a bed and called 911.
"I was thinking, 'I hope they don't come upstairs and look under the bed,'" said King.
As he was on the phone, King heard footsteps coming closer. Soon, his older brother's belongings were being loaded in bags right above his head.
"I was breathing as softly as I could. I was holding my heart - I mean, their feet were right there," said King.
Just as Chris said his nerves were at this limit, he heard the suspects scream, "The cops are here! The cops are here!"
Police arrived and the suspects left through the back door.
After a brief chase, officers arrested D'Andrew Green. Authorities are now searching for his alleged accomplice.
Authorities found some electronics taken from the home in the woods and returned them to the family.
Officers credit Chris for his courage and quick thinking.
"They said, 'You acted like a real adult. You did this the right way,'" said King.
Chris' dad pulled into the driveway around the same time as police. Only then did the 10-year-old come out of hiding.
"He called my name and I ran downstairs. I was crying. I gave him a big, huge hug. It was just really hard," said King.
Police say Chris' story shows the importance of preparing children for an emergency.
