Bears Bourbonnais Diary - Day 3

Posted: Updated:
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

Alright Bears, time to get to work. The first official practice of 2012 is in the books. No pads, just shells and shorts, but practice none the less.

Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler: The Bears new Power Couple?

Ok, I'm still not sure if either of them know who the odd couple is. But that's how Marshall described the relationship he and Cutler have. He said they a like an old married couple. Sometimes there's fireworks.

Seem times they totally butt heads. But Marshall- with that mega watt smile, is so excited to try and be the first 1000 yard receiver the Bears have had in a decade. He said the relationship Marshall and Cutler have is just natural. They're just drawn to each other. It's always been like that. I like it. They walk around together so much you get the feeling if they win 12+ games this season, they'll link arms and skip to and from meetings. All is ok by me if they score touchdowns- right?

Rain threatened about 40 minutes before practice, but then the sun came out and it was a perfect day for the first practice. Fans were very excited and eager to not only snag an autograph from the newest Bears (especially "Mr. Marshall), but to see Him catch too. And he did. Cutler found him a lot on day one. But the offense looked like it was day 1.

Drops, fumbles and jumping off sides were unfortunate little footnotes.

Things coach Tice wasn't happy about. "We're not going to put up with that." Good. He did say the battle at LT will be a dogfight between J-Webb and Chris Williams. And he won't put up with any "Crap". Sounds like a strong start to leading this offense. Tice said he will be throwing more at the offense Friday then 2 minute drill on Saturday when they practice in full pads for the first time.

Also: during practice the Bears traded a 2013 Draft pick to Tampa for DT Brian Price. He's had some off field issues, but Phil Emery is confident a change in scenery might be just what the Dr. ordered. Depth is never a bad thing.

Thunderstorms rolled through Bourbonnais as the Bears prepared for their final practice of training camp, forcing the morning walk-through indoors and our interviews into the coffee shop. And as the players began filing in for lunch, there were two hot topics.

What a day. I heard Mully and Hanley ran my interview with Brian Urlacher during their morning show and then proceeded to talk about it.

When I heard Brian Urlacher speak to the media hoard Sunday, I asked if he and I could sit down Monday to discuss his knee injury further. He agreed.
