Mother of child who ate cocaine arrested - Chicago News and Weather | FOX 32 News

The 17-year-old old mother of a child who allegedly ate crack cocaine was arrested on Wednesday, according to police.

Andrica Daniel is charged with cocaine possession, cruelty to children and reckless conduct. Her 13-month-old son spent two nights in the hospital after apparently ingesting crack cocaine that had been left out in the open at a home.

"We received a call from Piedmont Newnan Hospital saying that they were treating a 13-month-old child that had been exposed and possibly ingested an unknown amount of crack cocaine," said Sgt. Lee Gragg of the Palmetto Police Department.

The child's mother had initially told police that she was in the shower when the child encountered the cocaine. However, Gragg said that a thorough investigation indicated that she was involved in the incident.

Daniel brought the child to the hospital after he began vomiting. She claimed that she called police to the home, but nothing was done.

Police had previously charged the child's grandmother, 34-year-old Ebony Daniel, and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Charlie Martin.

Authorities acknowledge that they were called by Andrica earlier in the day on a domestic call. Gragg said that he could not provide any more details on that call.

Investigators say they issued arrest warrants for Daniel and Martin after they received a call from Piedmont Newnan Hospital.

Daniel was scheduled to face a Fulton County judge late Wednesday morning, but FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor says D.A. Paul Howard wants to amend the charges. Daniel's court appearance is now set for 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Daniel, 34, turned herself in to Palmetto police on Tuesday. Investigators later arrested her boyfriend, Charlie Martin, 22, on the same day.

The baby was released after spending two nights in the hospital and is expected to be OK.

Police say Daniel and Martin face charges of possession of cocaine, cruelty to children, and reckless conduct.
