Two dogs frightened customers and employees inside a Staples store when they charged in Tuesday morning.
Neighbors heard the barking and even saw the dogs try to attack a landscaper. The dogs apparently were on the loose even earlier Tuesday.
"I was attempting to go outside but I quickly found out there were two large dogs on my porch," Andrew Weiss said.
Weiss tried calling the authorities as the dogs occupied his backyard. When no one arrived, he looked out front to see his neighbor Pat Michaels trying to fend off one of the dogs with a stick.
"I turned around and there's this dog, so I just did the Errol Flynn I gave him a few of those and he backed off. But, he came at me and I grabbed my keys to get in the house," Michaels said.
The dogs went down the street to the Staples store in the 1800 block of North Harlem Avenue, according to Elmwood Park Police.
Eduardo Canedo captured the dogs as police dragged them out on home video. This is home video of the dogs being dragged out of the store. In the video, you can see the dog putting up a fight as authorities took it away.
Police said the growling dogs frightened many of the customers and employees.
Erica McClain was inside the store at the time.
"We were in the check-out line and the guy leaving before us came back in and said call 9-1-1 and those two dogs just came running in so the employees had us stay in the office, somebody called 9-1-1 and the manager ended up getting locked out. We were in there probably for an hour. The dogs were vicious and were foaming in the mouth, they pepper sprayed them," McClain said.
The dogs did not bite anyone, police added.
They were returned to their owner on Tuesday, according to authorities.
