Brits choose tradition over skin for Olympic cheerleaders

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

In Thursday's Talker: another Olympic uniform controversy.

This one is not about where the uniforms are made, but about how much Olympic cheerleaders' uniforms might reveal. First of all, we're not exactly sure what an "official Olympic cheerleading squad" is. But Britain has one. And organizers let people vote on which squad should get the Olympic bid.

14,000 people voted. Out of five finalists, it came down to two teams: the North London Wildcats -- pretty much what you'd expect when you think of a cheerleading squad. The other, a sexy squad called "The Crystals". Guess which team the voters picked? The Crystals got almost a third of the entire vote. The wildcats won just 27 percent. They were 700 votes behind the crystals.

But hold the medal ceremony. The competition's judge over-ruled those results, and gave the Olympic spot to the Wildcats. The judge says she's certain the crowds at the games will love them.

British voters hated the decision. They tweeted it was scandalous, undemocratic, and some called for a boycott. So what do you think? Should the judge have given the people the sexy team they wanted? Or was she right to choose a more traditional cheer team?
