Festival goers prepare for hot, humid weekend

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Beauty takes time but on Friday night at The Taste of Chicago, thunderstorms forced the CND Shellac Power Polish Manicure booth to shut down.

"Because of the electrical hazards we're taking safety first so we have been suspending services during the storms and of course we have another one coming so we want to make sure that all of our clients are safe and our nail professionals are protected and we're providing the best service," said Rachel Cooper, spokeswoman for CND Creative Nail Design.

The umbrellas popped open the moment the rain started but before the storm hit, Taste goers were prepared.

"I'm hoping that it's not going to be that bad but I have my umbrella just in case so I'm just hoping it doesn't rain on me today," said Jabonta Johnson, visiting Chicago from Detroit.

"I'm staring at the sky as we speak trying to figure out my timing... We're deciding if tomorrow might be a better day with this sky," said Shawn Lent.

Friday was filled with scattered thunderstorms forcing people to take cover on Michigan Avenue. Lightening also filled the skies in the suburbs - more of the same is expected during the weekend though the wet sticky weather could get better by Sunday just before round two of a mini heat wave kicks off.

Professional volleyball player and Brazilian beauty Priscilla Lima says teams competing in the Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball series at Oak Street Beach are prepared for whatever Mother Nature tosses their way.

"We heard it was going to be 100 and humid and everybody is like hydration - worry about the sun and being hot, I like being hot and then all of the sudden you have the storm so now you have to worry about balls being heavier and the game changes a little bit if it keeps raining but if it stops then you just go back to normal," said Priscilla Lima, a professional volleyball player.

"We're used to different types of sand, deep sand, shallow sand, wet sand. We're also used to humidity, sun, clouds, rain occasionally hail but we're used to it and we train in it so we're just excited to have whatever weather Chicago brings," said Tyra Turner, a professional volleyball player.
