CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

On Thursday, a giant X1.4-Class solar flare was blasted toward Earth from sunspot AR1520.

According to analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab that coronal mass ejection (CME) will reach Earth on July 14th.

The result could be strong geomagnetic storms and a chance for Aurora Borealis better known as the Northern Lights.

Chicago is in the area for viewing the lights if they develop. The best areas for viewing are away from city lights July 13-15th.

The explosion also struck Earth with a pulse of extreme UV radiation, shown in a movie recorded by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory.

Check out the projected track as well.
