Witnesses say Vernon Davis was shot in the side and killed in Ecorse.
ECORSE, Mich. (WJBK) -
The victim's family is having a tough time with this because not only is their loved one gone, his life was allegedly stolen for such a ridiculous reason.
57-year-old Vernon Davis was Sederia Hatch's brother.
"We're taught to defend what we believe," she said.
An argument over those beliefs may have led to his death. It happened Wednesday night in an Ecorse neighborhood. Witnesses says Davis and a man neighbors only know was "Quan" were arguing over religion and politics during a barbecue. The argument got so heated that it turned into a fight, and then witnesses say Quan pulled out a gun and shot Davis in the side, killing him.
Quan took off, and as of Thursday afternoon, Ecorse Police were still searching for him.
Meanwhile, Davis' family is leaning on their faith to carry them through this, and they have a message for the suspected killer.
"If he is watching this, I want him to know that our family do forgive you, and that we just going to pray and believe that God will touch his heart," said Jequan Hatch, Davis' nephew
