Over 400 people found receiving unemployment behind bars

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Illinois Department of Employment Security said they are worried people are collecting unemployment while they are in jail.

A spokesperson said the department found 420 people still receiving benefits while were behind bars.

They are now looking into whether those people may have only been briefly locked up and were still eligible, or if they really weren't available to work.

Work availability is a key part of the criteria needed to receive unemployment.
