Two killed in Park Forest house fire

Two people were killed in a Tuesday afternoon fire at their home in south suburban Park Forest.

Park Forest Fire Department crews responded to the fire in the 0 to 100 block of Ash Street earlier Tuesday, and two people were killed in the blaze, a firefighter said. He declined to provide further details.

The two killed were Julia Markeo, 78, and Darrell Nelson, 59, who both lived in the home, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

They were taken to Saint James Hospital and Health Centers in Chicago Heights, where they were pronounced dead at 3:01 p.m. and 2:55 p.m., respectively, according to the Medical Examiner's office.

Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.
