ComEd warns against scams after storms

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

ComEd says now that the power's back on from the storms, customers need to be on the lookout for scam artists.

The utility says any time there's a major outage, criminals try to take advantage.

The most common scams are people claiming the federal government has funds to help pay electric bills.

The scammers ask for residents' social security numbers.

ComEd says it never collects any money door to door, and employees never ask for personal information.
