Aldermen consider ordinance to light up Michigan Avenue

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Chicago alderman who wants to put electronic signs along Michigan Avenue said residents have nothing to be worried about.

Alderman Brendan Reilly told the Chicago Tribune that the plan would not make the Mag Mile look like Times Square.

Reilly said the proposal would limit the signage to Water Tower Place, the 900 North Michigan Shops, and the Chicago Place Mall.

He also said pedestrians won't be able to tell the difference between the current signs and the electronic ones, because the ordinance doesn't allow for flashing lights, neon, or streaming video.

The signs cannot not be more than 80 ft. off the ground, and they'd only be able to change images every 20 minutes.

There's no word on how soon the full City Council might vote on the sign proposal.
