CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
"American Idol" hopefuls began lining up at midnight - kept arriving throughout Tuesday morning - to the United Center to get a wristband for an audition.
Auditions actually take place on Thursday. Parents like Devin Jones brought her children and nieces.
"It could happen,'" Jones said. "It could!"
Registration is Tuesday and Wednesday, with auditions happening on Thursday.
Already, some Idol-wannabes are hanging around the parking lot of the United Center where the line will start.
Amber Smit drove in from Iowa, "I've always loved singing and I like getting in front of people to entertain them."
Idol auditions vary from city to city, every summer.
Last time they were held in Chicago, in June of 2009, nearly 12-thousand folks lined up for a shot in front of the judges.
That year, a kid from suburbs made it big: Lee DeWyze won Idol's season 9.
And while she wasn't crowned "the Idol", we met Chicagoan Jennifer Hudson in season 3.
If you're going to try out for Idol, bring your I-D, and you have to be aged 15 to 28.
You can register Tuesday or Wednesday, and come back for the actual audition.
Idol producer Patrick Lynn said the show has survived because, "what we're looking for, is something original."
"Originality is sort of a key element for us," Lynn continued. "We tell people all the time, it's not just about your singing voice it's about your personality. It's about you."
