CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
The state is investigating the death of an infant girl who became unresponsive at her Lawndale home and died early Sunday on the West Side.
Deshonna Kight, 2 months, became unresponsive at her home in the 1900 block of South Christiana Avenue and was pronounced dead at 5:18 a.m. Sunday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The state's Department of Children & Family Services is investigating allegations of neglect and opened a supportive services case for her family in May, said department spokesman Jimmie Whitelow.
DCFS declined to comment on which specific family member was being investigated and about other children in the home.
A Monday autopsy was inconclusive pending additional studies, according to the medical examiner's office.
