The Reverend Jesse Jackson talked briefly on Monday night about the condition of his son, Congressman Jesse Jackson Junior.
Rev. Jackson told FOX Chicago News, "Our family's in prayer. He is under medical supervision, regaining his strength. At the appropriate time, he will give a fuller report."
Rep. Jackson Jr. has been on medical leave for weeks. Initially, his office said Jackson was being treated for exhaustion.
But last week staff said Jackson's condition is more serious and requires inpatient medical treatment. A statement said Jackson also has been grappling with emotional issues.
Rev. Jackson was at an artists' event, previewing a Rainbow Push Conference. He declined to offer any new details regarding the whereabouts or the condition of his son.
FOX Chicago asked Rev. Jackson about comments by Senator Dick Durbin, who said that while his heart goes out to Jackson Junior and his family, Jackson must soon comment on his condition and how long his absence might last.
"H is under medical supervision," Rev. Jackson repeated. "He is gaining strength, at the appropriate time, he will share with the public that which he feels they should have."
Congressman Jackson Jr.'s colleagues say they're also stumped when it comes to the Chicago Democrat's medical condition.
Congressman Danny Davis said Monday that he's had no contact with Jackson and has no idea what he's suffering from. Davis and Jackson are members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Other Illinois congressmen have said the same thing.
No details on Jackson's whereabouts or exact medical condition have been released. Jackson's spokesmen haven't returned multiple messages.
