CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Nearly $230,000 worth of hair extensions was discovered stolen Saturday morning from a beauty supply store in Chicago's South Side Bronzeville neighborhood.

The owner discovered the burglary about 8 a.m. at a beauty supply store in the 200 block of East 35th Street, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Sometime after 9 p.m. Friday, the thieves broke through the door of a neighboring empty storefront, Mirabelli said. They then broke through the east wall of the storefront into the beauty supply store.

Thieves made off with $229,000 worth of hair extensions, Mirabelli said.

Video surveillance may be available, Mirabelli said.

No one is in custody and Area Central detectives are investigating.

The owner of 35th Street Beauty Supply refused to comment Saturday afternoon.
