Illinois opens 10 cooling centers across state

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Associated Press) -

Illinois officials say they will keep 10 cooling centers open across the state Saturday until 5 p.m. to help people without air conditioning cope with the prolonged hot weather. Illinois Tollway Oases in the Chicago area also are available 24 hours a day.

The cooling center locations are:

Cook County: Uptown at 2112 W. Lawrence; Humboldt Park at 2753 W. North Ave.; Northwest at 4105 W. Chicago Ave.; Southeast at 8001 S. Cottage Grove; and Calumet Park at 831 W. 119th St.

Kane and Elgin County: In Elgin at 600 S. State.

Macon County: In Decatur at 707 E. Wood.

Peoria County: In Peoria at 2301 NE Adams.

St. Clair County: In East St. Louis at 225 N 9th.

Will County: In Joliet at 45 E. Webster.
