Chicago Weekend What's Up: July 6-8

There's a lot going on in Chicago this weekend.

EVENTS

Neil Diamond fans will be head over to the United Center. His concert begins at 8 p.m. Friday.

The Dave Matthews Band performs at 5 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in Wisconsin. Tickets start at $50 and go as high as $90.

You can see a Beatle Sunday in Indiana - Ringo Starr will be appearing at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind.

You can also pick up some great artwork this weekend at the North Michigan Avenue Art Festival at Pioneer Court. The profits benefit charity.

Japanese anime fans will be flocking to Lisle Friday for the opening of the Anime Midwest Convention. The show will feature more than 300 artists who will display and sell works to benefit local charities, running through Sunday.

The Kane County Cougars are showing their support of the military Friday. The A minor league baseball team is giving away free admission to all veterans, active duty military and their families at the Fifth-Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva, Ill.

CLOSURES

Taste of Chicago street closures went into effect July 5 at 6 a.m. and will run through July 16 at 4 p.m.

Columbus will be closed from Balbo to Monroe; Jackson is closed from Michigan to Lake Shore Drive; and Congress is shut down from Michigan to Columbus.

The Taste of Chicago starts next Wednesday and runs through July 15. Clean-up should conclude July 16.
