3 killed, 7 injured in shootings after holiday

CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE: Three people have been killed and seven others injured in shootings Thursday and early Friday, starting near 7 a.m.

Police are investigating the murder of an 18-year-old man on the Southwest Side.

The victim was shot to death 4800 block of South Hamlin Avenue near 48th Street at 4:30 p.m. There's no word on whether the boy was the intended target or an innocent bystander.

Ricardo Alcantara, of the 6200 block of South Richmond Street, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Police are looking for the shooter, but are not reporting many details yet.

Sergio Garcia was killed at about 4:10 p.m. on the 1300 block of West 48th Street.

Garcia, 20, 4700 block of South Ada Street was killed when he was shot in the right side and left buttocks, officials said. He was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An 18-year-old man was found shot to death in the 10600 block of South Champlain Avenue at 2:03 a.m. Friday, police said.

Zachary Barrios, of the 9700 block of South Albany Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Another man was injured in the shooting on South Ada Street, but he is in stable condition. He was among the seven others injured in Thursday shootings.

A 15-year-old was shot in the abdomen at about 5:50 p.m. in the 1600 block of West 60th Street in Englewood, police said.

He was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
