Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the first over-the-counter HIV test you can take at home.

The OraQuick in-home HIV test detects the presence of HIV - the virus that causes AIDS - by testing your saliva.

Users will have results within 40 minutes.

Orasure Technologies is hoping to have the test available on line and in stores by the end of October.
