CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A small dog is doing much better Wednesday morning, after he was found running in and out of traffic on the Stevenson Expressway (I-55).

Vets said he was dehydrated and had a broken paw when he was brought in Tuesday after his expressway ordeal.

Illinois State Police responded about 6:45 a.m. to a report of a small white dog on I-55 on the South Side, according to an ISP District Chicago trooper.

Passers-by were able to grab him after he ran into some bushes near 65th street. He had stopped traffic the expressway for more than a half hour.

The dog was fitted with a micro chip in Iowa, and vets said the hope it leads them to his owner.

The Sun-Times Media wire contributed to this report.
