The Cook County Sheriff's office on Monday announced that 37 arrests were made during a ‘sweep' of south suburban Harvey that also included eviction crews, a gang task force and an animal crimes unit.
During the Wednesday crack down, sheriff's deputies and police officers attempted to execute more than 200 warrants for wanted fugitives who were believed to be in the area, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
Authorities arrested 11 fugitives wanted for felony crimes, such as unlawful use of a weapon, burglary, forgery, robbery and retail theft, the release said.
Eleven wanted fugitives were arrested on misdemeanor crimes that included domestic battery and driving on a suspended license.
The sheriff's gang task force also cuffed 15 people for mostly drug-related crimes, the release said.
"We will continue to have our gang team focus on this area to let the gangbangers in Harvey know that their behavior will not be tolerated," said Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart in a written statement.
An animal crimes unit involved in the sweep took four dogs from two homes, the release said, adding that the dogs were found in "deplorable conditions" and taken to the South Suburban Humane Society.
Three pitbull puppies and an exotic bird were also found at a home in the 0-100 block of West 154th Street when a crew carried out an eviction order, the release said. Harvey Animal Control has taken custody of the animals.
