CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A Cicero dad locked his young kids in a sweltering hot car while he stepped away to indulge in booze and cocaine, prosecutors said.
Gerardo Oruzco, 35, was arrested Friday after a member of the public spotted his 3 and 1-year-old sons strapped into child safety seats in the 1600 block of South Laramie, it was alleged in court Sunday.
The boys were left unattended without water or food in 80 degree heat and they had to be treated for dehydration, prosecutors said. Oruzco admitted he had been drinking in a bar with a woman and using cocaine while the children were unattended in the car, it's alleged.
Charged with two counts of reckless conduct and endangering the life of a child, he was ordered held on bail of $250,000 by Judge Adam D. Bourgeois.
