CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A firefighter suffered heat related injuries during a fire at a home in the South Side Canaryville neighborhood Sunday morning.

Firefighters responded about 7 a.m. to a fire at 444 E. 42nd St. and found the 2½ story home fully engulfed in flames, according to Fire Media Affairs spokeswoman Meg Ahlheim said. The fire was elevated to a 2-11 alarm for manpower relief due to the warm weather conditions.

The fire spread to a two-story residence next door before being extinguished at 7:36 a.m., Ahlheim said.

No one was home during the fire but a firefighter was taken in serious condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center with heat related injuries.
