It's the start of the long holiday weekend for vacationers headed north. Their visions of cool beaches and thrilling jet ski rides we're replaced with brake lights and frustration Saturday. Motorists traveling on I-75 north near the Palace discovered major backups starting around University Dr.

Triple lane closures are scheduled through Sunday afternoon from Giddings Road to Baldwin for pavement repairs. Drivers can avoid the mess by taking Dixie Highway (US 24 north) and reconnect with 75 north up near Flint. M-DOT is expected to suspend construction projects starting Tuesday afternoon through Thursday.
