CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A lifeguard and bystanders are being credited with saving the life of a teenage boy who got caught in the undertow Friday evening on the South Side.
The 16-year-old boy got caught in the undertow in Jackson Harbor in the 6400 block of South Promontory Drive Friday evening, according to Fire Media Affairs.
A lifeguard and bystanders jumped into the harbor and held him up until emergency personnel arrived, according to the fire department, which said the boy would have died if not for the fast work.
Paramedics took the boy in good condition to the University of Chicago Hospital, the fire department said.
