Police take on small crimes to prevent big ones on CTA

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago police are hoping their new "broken windows" approach to crime on the CTA will keep riders safe.

Police officers are making more arrests for minor offenses, with the hope that cutting the little crimes will keep bigger ones from happening.

They've made more than 800 arrests this year already for minor crimes like fare evasion.

Officials say most of the people who skip out on fines are ones moving between train cars hoping to steal from unsuspecting passengers.
