Judge bars some testimony in Christopher Vaughn case

A Will County judge barred some testimony Tuesday from a doctor in Wales who offered a link between an anti-seizure medication taken by Christopher Vaughn's wife and the 2007 shooting death of her and the couple's three children.
Prosecutors wanted Daniel Rozak to hold a hearing to review potential testimony from Prof. David Healy, who said Topamax should be considered as an explanation for the shootings "if there is not a convincing alternative explanation," Sun-Times Media is reporting.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned the drug could increase the risk of suicidal behavior.
Rozak said Tuesday no hearing is needed. While he said Healy may testify about the link between Topamax and suicide identified by the FDA, he said Healy's attempt to connect Topamax to the Vaughn murders involves too much speculation.
Vaughn is preparing to go on trial Aug. 13 for the June 14, 2007, murders of Kimberly and their three children — 12-year-old Abigayle, 11-year-old Cassandra and 8-year-old Blake. They were gunned down in their minivan along I-55 near Channahon.
Vaughn was also shot, and his attorneys contend Kimberly shot him and the children before turning the gun on herself.
