A South Side man was ordered held without bond Tuesday for the fatal shooting of a man early Sunday in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Anthony Smith, 26, of the 9000 block of South Wallace Street is charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting of a 29-year-old man early Sunday in the 3700 block of West Chicago Avenue, according to police.

Hansen Jackson of the 1500 block of South 61st Street was shot multiple times in the chest, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 2:35 a.m. Sunday.

Officers on patrol about 2 a.m. near the intersection West Chicago and North Ridgeway heard gunfire and saw Smith shooting at Jackson, police said.

The officers called for an ambulance and arrested Smith after a short foot chase in the 700 block of North Ridgeway, police said. A gun was recovered.

The officers who made the arrest were working the CPD's new Violence Reduction Overtime Initiative.

Smith's next court hearing is scheduled for July 16.
