Mayor Emanuel seeks speed camera bids

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Mayor Emanuel is looking for companies interested in bidding for the city's speed camera business.

The mayor wants speed cameras installed in up to 300 areas in the city.

That would cover nearly half of Chicago.

Red-light cameras generated $69 million for the city in 2010, and speed cameras likely would increase ticket revenue considerably.

Speed cameras are expected to begin clocking motorists in Chicago this fall, but tickets probably won't be issued until early next year.
