CPS updates code of conduct, cracks down on bullying, limits suspensions

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago Public School administrators are reworking the student code of conduct.

Officials revealed changes to the code yesterday that eliminate mandatory 10-day out-of-school suspensions for all but the most serious offenses.

The code also requires staff and students to report bullying and investigate it.

The school board will vote on the changes tomorrow.

Included in the plan is an emphasis on what is called "restorative justice" rather than pure punishment.
