Chicago police officials report the number of students shot in the city during the past school year is up nearly 22 percent.
The Chicago Tribune reports that 319 students were shot -- the highest number in four years.
But police say the number of students killed in gun violence during the year is down slightly with 24 students fatally shot, which is four fewer than in the 2010-2011 school year.
The Tribune reports that the toll includes students shot at all hours of the day, and the numbers from police don't indicate where the shootings occurred.
