CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Family and friends of a South Side teen who lost his five-year battle with cancer held a 5K walk and party in his honor last weekend.

Andy Smialek died from Hodgkins Lymphoma in November of 2009. Andy was a son, brother and a friend to many.

They said he never lost his sense of humor despite hundreds of chemo and radiation treatments throughout his high school years.

Andy graduated from St. Rita High School in 2009 but died a short time later.

This is the third year for the Walkin' It Out for Andrew 5K. It was held Saturday, June 23 in his West Lawn neighborhood.

Friends and family who helped organize the event said they will help kids fighting cancer now by not letting Andy be forgotten.

The event had food, raffles and music, with proceeds benefiting Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn.
