CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
From strawberries, local crafts and artisans, to PRIDE and baseball, Time Out Chicago's Marissa Conrad lines up your weekend with sweets, treats, queer goodness and America's favorite pastime. Summer's officially here, so don't miss a beat this weekend with Marissa's top picks.
Friday
White Sox Bus Trip Lottie's, 1925 W Cortland St (773-489-0738, lottiespub.com). 6pm; $60. Lottie's motorcoach takes you out to the ballgame where the Sox play the Milwaukee Brewers on their home turf. The bus is stocked with beverages and snacks.
Friday-Sunday
Strawberry Fest Downtown Long Grove, between Old McHenry Rd and Robert Parker Coffin Rd (visitlonggrove.com/strawberry). 10am–6pm; $5 suggested donation for adults, kids free. This family-friendly festival features strawberry everything—shortcake, donuts, ice cream, drinks, chocolate-covered strawberries and even a pie-eating contest.
Sunday
Need a good reason to go to yet another craft market? How about free beer and cocktails, compliments of Goose Island brew and Spicebox Whisky. Today Dose Market celebrates its one-year anniversary—one year of heavily curating a selection of quality local purveyors and eschewing the put-a-bird-on-it ethos of most DIY markets. This morning, check out an editioned card deck and prints by design-duo Uusi, Grow Studio dollhouses, Gentleman's Boombox's speakers, Nellcôte's house-milled flour and pasta, and several other products. As usual, hand-crafted food and drinks will be flowing. River East Art Center, 435 E Illinois St (312-321-1001, rivereastartcenter.com). 10am–4pm; $10, advance $8.
Sunday
Chicago Pride Parade Broadway and Montrose Ave (chicagopridecalendar.org). Noon. Take 450,000 hungover paradegoers, stir in 200 over-the-top floats, mix in several dozen vote-hungry politicians, add throngs of scantily-clad men and women, sprinkle generously with glitter and condoms, and you get this 43rd annual shot of queer goodness. Changes are afoot this year including a new parade route starting at the corner of Montrose Ave and Broadway.
