CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Chicago Park District lifeguards rescued three people trapped on a stalled boat in Lake Michigan Wednesday afternoon.
The 22-foot wooden boat was floating near Chicago Avenue when its engine went out about 3:35 p.m., police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. Three people -- all adults or in their late teens -- were adrift on the vessel 400 yards out in the lake near a break wall.
Someone used a cell phone to call 911, but before police could reach them, Chicago Park District lifeguards were able to tow the boat to Diversey Harbor, Mirabelli said.
All three were able to get off the boat safely, and no injuries were reported.
