CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Chicago Police released surveillance photos of a suspected burglar, hoping someone can identify the man accused of smashing windows and taking cash from at least three Lincoln Park businesses.
In each of the three cases, the suspect breaks into the store by smashing through glass on a front door or side window, Near North District police said in an alert to business owners.
He empties or removes the cash drawer entirely and takes personal property before leaving, the alert said. All three of the recent burglaries happened near the intersection of Halsted Street and Armitage Avenue in the late evening or early morning.
The first burglary happened June 13 in the 2100 block of North Halsted Street between 7 p.m. and 11:45 p.m., the alert said. Police think the same suspect struck again early Tuesday -- first in the 800 block of West Armitage Avenue about 12:15 a.m., then half an hour later, again in the 2100 block of North Halsted Street.
The suspect is described as a male black between 35 and 45 years old with a dark complexion, the alert said.
Anyone with information about the incidents should contact Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8380.
