Bajaj, an attorney from the northern Illinois town of Sycamore, near DeKalb, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor prostitution charge, the Sun-Times is reporting.
Bajaj — who became something of an Internet sensation after she was initially charged in June 2011 with three counts of prostitution — was sentenced to 24 months of court supervision, fined $2,500, and ordered to complete 50 hours of community-service work and undergo a psychological evaluation.
Prosecutors dropped one felony prostitution charge, as well as a second misdemeanor count.
Authorities began looking into Bajaj after they discovered emails between her and a man during an unrelated child-pornography investigation involving someone else, DeKalb police said.
Bajaj admitted accepting $100 to have sex with a man at his DeKalb County apartment on Aug. 13, 2010, prosecutor Charles Colburn said in court.
That was about three months before she received her law license, according to state records.
The sentence means Bajaj can move to have the conviction expunged once she completes her court supervision.
She declined to comment after her hearing.
The state's Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission will review her status. For now she still has a valid law license.
