When a naked man went running along a west suburban street, banging on doors and damaging property, residents called police. When that same naked man tried to jump into a moving car, police used a Taser to subdue him.
Wheaton police got the unusual call about 3 p.m. Tuesday about a man wearing no clothes and running incoherently around the area of Elm and Blanchard, Wheaton police Deputy Chief Tom Meloni said.
"He was running through the neighborhood with no clothes on, banging on doors, yelling incoherently and damaging property," Meloni said. "He broke the door at one house and entered another house where the people were at home."
When officers "tried to stop the man by yelling at him to lay down, he tried to jump into a moving car," Meloni said. "They finally had to use a taser to take him into custody safely."
No one was injured in the incident, but the man, a 20-year-old Wheaton resident, was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, where he remained on Wednesday for "observation," Meloni said.
Charges are expected to be filed after detectives complete their investigation.
Meloni said there were reports of the man, whose name was withheld pending charges, damaging property at two homes, though the deputy chief was not sure exactly what was damaged.
