Changes coming to this weekend's Pride Parade

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Organizers of this weekend's Pride Parade on the North Side say they had to make changes to keep the event safe.

The parade is one of the biggest events for Chicago's gay community. Hundreds of thousands of people pack into Lakeview for it every year. But organizers say the crowds have gotten too big and to unruly.

Among the changes, the parade will now start at Montrose and Broadway. The route will be five blocks longer to give participants access to more CTA stations. It will only last two-and-a-half hours to open streets up more quickly.

The local alderman says police are going to crack down hard on public drinking.
