It's been hot, muggy and uncomfortable this week, but while we've seen some of the highest temperatures of the year and one of the warmest Junes in many years, we won't set any records before things start to cool off — though that's a relative term.
Chicago area temperatures topped 90 degrees for the third straight day on Wednesday, with temperatures reaching 92 degrees by 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Following Monday's high of 94 and Tuesday's 95, the high was expected to hit 94 Wednesday, marking the eighth day over 90 this month and 13th this year. The record high for June 18 was 98 degrees, while the highest ever for June 19 and 20 were 99 and 98.
A cool front is expected to move across the area tonight, according to the weather service, and after a slim chance of storms Wednesday night and Thursday morning, temperatures are expected to be a relatively mild 82-85 on Thursday and right through the weekend, slightly cooler near the lake as the winds shift from the southwest to the northwest on Thursday.
Nightly lows will drop from the mid-70s Wednesday night to the lower 60s Thursday and Friday nights.
The weather service is calling for a 20 percent of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night, and 40 percent chance on Thursday morning.
